Bags for Life for Days
This week I had the honour of helping out a fellow Mum of 4 kids including a new baby. The chaos that comes along with 4 children had gotten on top of her and had become too much to be able to relax and the house no longer functioned. This brave Mum had asked for help!
The “stuff” in the house had become too much, things didn’t have a place to live so they got shoveled into Bags for Life which then got shoved in a corner. There were lots of treasures to be found within the bags including bits from games or toys that were supposedly lost forever. Whilst sorting through, lots could be immediately binned because it was broken or no longer relevant.
As well as the “Bags for Life for days corner”, we also tackled the bathroom, using storage boxes and even plastic sandwich boxes to help compartmentalise smaller items such as razors and toothbrushes. If a room that is used by all of the family every day has order and things have a place to live, everyone has a role to maintain, replace and put back what they use.
Creating time, both physically (making sure the kids were occupied elsewhere, ideally out of the house) and mentally (feeling emotionally prepared and ready) to organise through the piles was what this Mum needed to begin the journey to live a more organised and clutter-free life.
We only had 2 hours together, but even just making one corner or space look methodical and make sense can give a whole space such a different feel.
I feel so proud of this Mum for asking for help and making a positive step in the right direction to create a safe, organised and homely place for her family.
